Tara Hughes works and lives in Saratoga Springs NY. She works intuitively in diverse mediums, using imagery of and references to, motherhood, the human body and her internal sensory dialogue. More specifically exploring themes mothers as social sculptors - artists as documentarians of humanity, along with processing the feelings of isolation and trauma. Looking at how one experiences those things internally and externally in the body. How does one process emotions in physical bodies and what would those sensations look like?
Tara grew up in NYC. She then attended Bennington College in Vermont where she received her BA in Painting and Sculpture in 2007. While always keeping one foot in art making she has also worked as an assistant, administrator, instructor, farmer and cook. All which have influenced her practice as an art maker and human. After becoming a mother Tara has returned to art making with a renewed focus and energy. Tara is passionate about the power of art to uplift and heal, not only for the maker but the viewers as well.
